ابراهيم محمد عبد الله لافى
photojournalist
Ain Media
Ibrahim Mohammad Lafi was born on September 28th, 1999, in Rafah. He had studied technical accounting at Israa University, but his passion led him to journalism and photography. He then started working at Ain Media, and when the genocide escalated on October 7th, he began documented the unfolding violence. This would cost him his life. Ibrahim was shot and killed by Israel while reporting from Gaza Strip’s Beit Hanoun crossing/erez crossing. He was only 24. After his murder, Ibrahim’s brother shared a letter on Facebook, expressing his grief: “And this is to my sweet and elegant brother Ibrahim... Ibrahim loved life so much. He liked hanging out and always enjoyed dressing up... The sea to him was holy and there was nothing more pure and sweet than his soul... Ibrahim was martyred with a gun, he met his god drowned in his own blood... I miss you my love and I don’t know what to say besides I love you Ibrahim... and how lucky we’ve been for having you...” He was a devoted uncle to his two beloved nieces, Doaa and Salma. Doaa, the eldest, shared a close bond with her uncle, who often took care of her. In the first two pictures, you can see Ibrahim with Doaa — one of which is from when she was just a baby. Salma was born just 3 months before Ibrahim was killed. She will never get to know her uncle.
